{"id":29,"date":"2017-06-24T09:27:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-24T09:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/?p=29"},"modified":"2022-05-24T09:31:14","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T09:31:14","slug":"gsoc-week-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/2017\/06\/24\/gsoc-week-5\/","title":{"rendered":"GSoC Week 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>GSoC 2017: Sludge Engine Week 5<\/h1>\n<h1>Week task conclusion<\/h1>\n<p>Generally, this 5th week of GSoC project was going smoothly: The z-Buffer zone (multi-layer effect) has been reproduced and fall back detection has been added<\/p>\n<p>Again, thanks to my mentors _sev(Eugene Sandulenko), t0by(Tobia Tesan) and all scummvm team members that has helped me on z-Buffer during this week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2022\/05\/null2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To make a brief conclusion about what we have and have not achieved for<b>\u00a0this week<\/b>\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p><b>Tasks completed<\/b>:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>z-BufferZone :\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yinsimei\/scummvm\/commit\/7398926c8f375dd0bd6bf0e541a9c4024cfb49c2\">load z-Buffer sprites<\/a>\u00a0+\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yinsimei\/scummvm\/commit\/5a39731bd395651330b9cf0cd6e9bb157fc7e5b9\">reproduce multi-layer effects<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yinsimei\/scummvm\/commit\/db1f519d63891a23d718df2d044e38e9a1f8114d\">fall back detection for sludge games<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To resolve later:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>There is a segmentation fault when Robin\u2019s Rescue starts. It may result from the game logo reading in the initilization, which is not implemented yet<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h1>What\u2019s for next week: Bug fixes in Robin\u2019s Rescue<\/h1>\n<p><b>Tasks for next week :<\/b><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>Fix the segmentation error in Robin\u2019s Rescue<\/li>\n<li>Clear all bugs in Robin\u2019s Rescue<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Also, the first GSoc evaluation will take place next week.<\/p>\n<h1>Some findings about sludge<\/h1>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/opensludge.github.io\/opensludge\/doc\/SLUDGEDevKitHelp\/About_the_SLUDGE_Z-Buffer_Maker.html\">z-Buffer Zone<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>In sludge, z-Buffer zones are different areas of a scene which can obscure character graphics, such as foreground silhouettes, doorframes and furniture. Their display has been ordered by a y-value to create different image layers (up to 16).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2022\/05\/null3.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above room image has the following z-buffer image (3 layers) :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2022\/05\/null4.png\" width=\"220\" height=\"193\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2022\/05\/null5.png\" width=\"220\" height=\"198\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.scummvm.org\/yinsimei\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/61\/2022\/05\/null6.png\" width=\"220\" height=\"197\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And characters will change the image layer it lies in, when its own y-value changes.
